The history of the Chattanooga Billiard Club can be traced back to its existence in 1982, when owner Phillip Windham opened the first club with his friend and pool playing partner, Mike Massey.  Massey later became one of the country’s great “trick shot” pool artists.  The initial club was located in a building conveniently located to downtown Chattanooga.  The first club resembled our memories of the Chattanooga Billiard Clubold style pool room — a small number of “hustlers and pool sharks.”   Mr. Windham recognized that in order to develop a following of loyal customers and attract new customers, he had to improve the club’s overall image through elimination of the more unsavory customer base and the improvement of club appearance.  Once he did so, the club became much more profitable and grew to be a downtown favorite of businessmen and professionals.  He subsequently bought out the interests of Mr. Massey and became sole owner.

With a target market of the business and professional community in mind, Mr. Windham decided to build a “dream club” and wanted to build it in the “Hamilton Place” area, where most of the restaurant and commercial activity was growing in Chattanooga at the time.   Chattanooga Billiard Club - Hamilton PlaceIn 1992, he opened the modern, well decorated CBC East, equipping  it with professional level pool tables and an upscale bar and restaurant.  The Chattanooga area finally had a well lit, friendly and upscale place for people who loved billiards, but didn’t like the dingy, sometimes dangerous environments and locations of other billiard clubs.

By catering to a target market of the higher income customer, CBC East quickly became the favorite of all income levels who enjoy the ancient sport of billiards.  It became a family entertainment center focused on billiards.

The Club’s management strives to make the CBC experience one which every customer who walks in the door wants to experience again and again.  The goal of the club is to provide the highest quality experience a guest can ever experience in a billiard club.
